The Keto Diet - Book Review

I recently got Leanne Vogel's new book The Keto Diet, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve health issues or their relationship with food, while reaching and maintaining a healthy weight.
I wrote a little bit about keto in a previous post, but this book will give you a lot more details and help you find the keto profile that works for you and your specific health concerns.

Although I have been eating keto for over a year with great success in improving my health, I like to get new ideas and motivation (and recipes!), and I've enjoyed Leanne's YouTube videos and podcasts over the past several months. I was super excited when this book came out and it has lived up to my expectations.

This book is probably the best resource for how to do this way of eating that I have read yet! I've read other books to understand the science behind keto, but Leanne makes it so practical. I love how she lays out different eating profiles for people with different health needs and that weight loss is not the main focus. I think it is easy to get into a dieting mindset anytime we change our diet, but Leanne is careful to point out that this is not about being on a diet. I love that! She also introduces the concept of carb-ups, which means eating paleo-friendly carbs in the evening sometimes, and I think those are helpful for some people (I'm not sure if carb-ups are for me personally yet). Not only does this book have an excellent explanation about the keto diet and how to learn to trust your body and stop tracking calories and macros, it's full of practical resources. There are meal plans for several different eating profiles, depending on whether or not you have a carb-up and how often. There are a lot of general cooking tips and a grocery shopping guide, and there are a bunch of recipes. I have not tried any of the recipes yet, but they all look delicious and are focused on real food. If you are looking to feel better physically or mentally or just to be free to eat bacon, buy this book and try the keto diet!
